2nd Grade Homeroom- Ms. Silvaggio’s Class


EdPuzzle

EdPuzzle is a new app approved by our IT department for students 13 years and older.  Students under 13 need parent permission. I would like to use this app for videos and questions to avoid you needing to show your child youtube videos.  Please let me know if you would not like your student to use EdPuzzle. I can give you the video and then your child can write a response on a google doc instead of answering the multiple choice questions in EdPuzzle. Thank you! 

*I will use this again next week after parents have a chance to email me if they would prefer the google doc response. 


Zoom Calendar Invites

We have created a spreadsheet of 2nd Grade Zoom times.  I also sent a “calendar invite” to the students and parents.  We haven’t used the calendar in class, but I think if you show them how to use it, they will be able to.  I have the students then click on the 3x3 array at the top of google to move between classroom, drive, etc.  So now they can use the calendar as well. I will post a video in the lesson for Monday about how to use it. I am hoping this will help students connect to the meetings easily. 


Zoom Meeting Etiquette

Please have students join with their name or your name.  There have been reports of people hacking into zoom meetings, so I want to be sure that I only allow our class to join. Students need to look at the speaker and behave similar to how they would in class: listening ears on and staying focused. I will address this in my Monday overview video.

Google Classroom Turn In

When your child completes the assignments for the day (or finishes with the amount of work you feel is appropriate, please click the “turn in” button so I am notified that it is complete. I will take attendance based on the first item being finished each day.  Please complete the list in order so your child has a well rounded experience.

Optional Idea for students:

One of Ms. Slater’s close friends works at a nursing home and she said the residents would love some positivity right now. If students want to write a note, write a story, or draw a picture for them that would be wonderful. This would be a fun activity if the students are interested. If they are typed they can email them to roy@holidaytouch.com (subject line: Ms. Slater's Class)

Additional Literacy Resources

  • iReady Reading Lessons
  • RazKids - I recommend completing books in the “Level Up” section.  Listen, read and pass the quiz before moving on to the next book. I would like to see everyone at a minimum of Level Q by the end of the school year. 
  • Spelling City - There are specific words and activities assigned each week that are at your child’s individual spelling level. After they complete the 10 assignments, they can play games with their words.  There are tests assigned on Fridays (or the last day of the school week). 
  • Typing - Please make sure students are logged in, and progress through the lessons. The goal is to get to about 15 words per minute.  
  • Read Theory - These are short reading passages with comprehension questions.  When students pass the quiz, they are moved up in lexile and grade level.  When they do not pass, they are moved down.  
  • NoRedInk - This helps students with grammar.  
  • Epic Books - Class Code: nzh7323
  • Flocabulary - songs about topics with vocab words and quizzes  
  • Zoom Meetings with Teacher - I will schedule sessions and feel free to reach out to schedule additional times if needed
