This is my fifth year at STEM teaching mathematics. My first two years I worked in the middle school teaching Geometry and Course 2 and these last three years, I have been spreading the glory of math in high school Geometry, Algebra 2 and Financial Literacy.
Before STEM, I worked through much of the west and southwest as a traffic engineer, roadway designer and transportation planner. I’ve even been on construction sites as a project manager and inspector! It was very rewarding to be a part of so many projects that improve safety for people on the roads and seeing the impact of the work for the communities we were in. I have a Bachelors of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Colorado, Boulder.
I love teaching at STEM and enjoy incorporating engineering and physical movement in my classes. Studies show that students who are moving while learning are more likely to retain information (and also less likely to fall asleep!) I am excited to share the critical thinking skills and project-based ideas I’ve learned over my 13-year span in engineering with my students!
In my spare time, I like to play with my daughter who is in 3rd grade, travel, read and come up with ridiculous math jokes and puns that make my students cringe.
