Hi, welcome to STEM School Highlands Ranch Elementary Physical Education!
I am Steve Broll or Mr. B as most of the students call me, I am your physical education teacher for the elementary school this year. I am happy to say that I am only teaching the elementary school this year, which is an opportunity to make PE an even better experience for your children. I do my best to provide an environment where students feel safe to try new things and activities even if they have little to no experience with them. I pride myself on being able to try and challenge every student based on their own skill level while maintaining a positive attitude. This year we will be learning and be practicing lots of skills and activities. We will work on cartwheels, jumping, kicking, rolling, running, throwing and catching skills. We will also be learning basketball, dancing, health, speed stacks and working on lifelong sports such as bowling.
I grew up in San Antonio, TX before moving to Highlands Ranch, CO in middle school. While I was in school I really struggled with dyslexia and found that I thrived in classes such as PE and sports. Growing up I played basketball, karate, soccer, swimming, tennis, wrestling, shot put/discus and football. I learned through sports how to work with others, achieve goals and how to deal with disappointment. By the time I was in high school, I was playing football and track and field as a thrower. While attending Highlands Ranch High School, I became a pretty good football player specializing on the offensive and defensive lines. During the track season, I was a shot putter and discus thrower. Through the sports I played, I was also able to break three of my high school's weightlifting records as well. After high school, I was trying to find what I wanted to do with my life and a former coach of mine forced me to come help him out. I was hooked immediately and discovered that I loved teaching. I decided to attend the University of Northern Colorado because of their outstanding physical education program. While attending UNCO I was able to learn from some of the top professors in the country and teach in multiple schools of various backgrounds. After graduating from school I was able to gain additional experience working with severe and special needs students at Summit View Elementary and Arapahoe High School. While there I was able to learn how to work in ways that best met the student's needs. During my time at UNCO and working with special needs students, I was able to develop skills that have made me a more effective teacher today and I have brought that into my classes here at STEM School Highlands Ranch. This is my third year here at STEM and I couldn't be happier.
This summer my wife and I celebrated our 1st year wedding anniversary by taking a trip to Walt Disney World and a cruise to Cuba. M wife Sarah is a History teacher at Chaparral High School. When I'm not spending time with my wife you can also find me coaching varsity football at Mountain Vista High School, where I coach the offensive line. I feel very blessed to be able to teach and coach in this community because of all the family support. Please feel free to email me with any questions at firstname.lastname@example.org
Also the football team I coach plays most Friday nights at Shea Stadium in Highlands Ranch from August through November, come check us out. Thanks and I look forward to a great year!
