About Me

Hello!  My name is Maura Ridder.  This is my seventh year at STEM School Highlands Ranch, and I am thrilled to be returning to such an amazing community of students, staff, and parents! I teach 6th grade Language Arts and Middle School Student Government. Additionally, I am excited to take on a new role this year as a teacher coach! I earned my BA from University of Colorado, Boulder; my Masters in Education from Regis University, Denver; my Principal Certification from Lamar University, and my J.D. from UOP, McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento, California.

I was born and raised in Connecticut, and I was ecstatic to attend college in Colorado and ski for CU Boulder!  I studied in London during college, and, after graduation, I accepted a job south of London at the YMCA Fairthorne Manor as a Lead Practitioner. In that job, I directed 25 counselors and 250 children. After one year, I moved to San Francisco where I worked as an insurance broker in the Transamerica Pyramid, and I met my husband, Peter. During that time, I attended law school and moved back to London to intern as a Barrister at Gray's Inn.  For the next several years, I practiced in the San Francisco and Santa Clara District Attorneys’ Office, worked at several civil law firms, and developed my own Family Law firm in San Francisco. Eventually, we moved to Castle Pines Village, Colorado to raise our three daughters. While caring for our daughters, I created, produced, and hosted a daily radio show called “Mom’s the Word," which aired on Denver's KLZ 560 for four years.

I have a passion for musical theatre, and I been singing, dancing, and acting most of my life.  In addition to performing, I love to direct, choreograph, and instruct musical theatre.  I have worked with children through Castle Rock Players and American Academy for the past ten years. I believe that my years of working with and helping children, coupled with my parenting experience, has prepared me to be the empathetic, patient teacher I am today. I absolutely love children and I am proud of the fact that my current students and past students feel comfortable coming to me for help and advice. All students know that my door is always open.

In my free time, I love to travel to California to visit my daughters in school there.  I also love to ski and run.

I am looking forward to another amazing year with my students, the staff, and our community here at Stem!
